COVEGA Corporation Introduces Gain Chips with Integrated Phase Control
Covega Corporation, a leading provider of state-of-the-art, opto-electronic components and subsystems for the telecommunications, military, medical, industrial and cable television industries, today announced the SAF-1181, a next generation gain chip with an integrated phase control section supporting widely tunable lasers designs. The addition of the SAF-1181 further extends Covega’s market leadership in gain chips and expands their gain chip offering to include products with integrated features which simplify customer’s system designs.
The SAF-1181 gain chips, which are part of Covega’s family of Single Angled Facet (SAF) devices, are a continuation of the set of high power InP engines that power external cavity laser (ECL) designs. The devices employ a proprietary multi-quantum well design offering maximum power, broad tunable bandwidth, low facet reflectivity and high coupling efficiency with stable operation in an external cavity laser. The proprietary SAF design allows for low modal reflectance at the angled facet and customizable reflectance from the straight facet.
The SAF-1181 is being sampled to select customers and the technology is under evaluation as the next generation gain chip for ECL and tunable transponder applications. The devices offer ECL designers performance differentiation allowing their designs to operate to 40 °C and tune over the entire band while delivering over 30 mW of output power. “Our customers have confirmed that our designs offer extraordinary value and superior laser performance,” says Joe Dixon, President and CEO of Covega, “and we are pleased to be able to enhance our value proposition with the integration of these features.”
